Arabic

Arabic language is a pillar of the cultural diversity of humanity. It is the 5th most spoken language in the world, used daily by more than 400 million people. Arabic is one of the oldest languages in the world and the first written evidence of Arabic dates back to 512 AD. This makes it at least 1500 years old. It is the official language of 25 countries, making it very widespread in the Middle East and Northern Africa. It is also one of the 6 official languages of the United Nations, an organization that even made December 18th Arabic National Day. Learning Arabic won’t only get you ahead in a government career, but it will also give you a leg up in any industry in business, engineering, medical, nonprofit and international relations. Knowing Arabic can help you build valuable business relationships with business people in wealthy Middle Eastern countries like Qatar and the United Arab Emirates

Arabic Alphabet:

The Arabic alphabet only contains 28 letters. There is no exact transliteration to English, only approximate pronunciations and sounds. It is impossible because there is only one vowel in the alphabet, the rest are consonants. Depending on the accents, pronunciation changes. Moreover, there are many variations and dialects of Arabic. Some of them are Egyptian, Algerian, Moroccan, Sudanese, Saidi, Mesopotamian, and more. All have different pronunciations and variations, but the most widely spoken is Egyptian, by more than 50 million people.

Write Alphabet:

Not all scripts share the same writing direction. Those languages that originated from Greek and Latin are written left to right, predominant for Western languages. But there are other very important writing systems. While Traditional Chinese or Japanese are written in columns, languages as Arabic, Hebrew or Farsi share another script and are written right to left.

What can I learn in this program?

Students immerse in the culture and practice the language with other students and teachers. We introduce you to the grammar and vocabulary that you need to speak and practice conversation. Classes are very dynamic. Teachers explain the concepts and make students interact and apply what they learnt. We offer individual and group exercises. The aim of this project is to give the opportunity to people interested in learning Arabic and to come and discover the beautiful country of Morocco. By living with a Moroccan host family, the participants will be completely emerged in the local culture and will be able to take part in and adopt a Moroccan way of life.
